Hotel whispers in the palace
On Friday and Saturday, August 21 and 22, you can look forward to "Hotelgeflüster im Palast" at kuenstlerhaus43. A journey back in time to Wiesbaden in 1905, the Nice of the North.
Curtain up! The moment has finally arrived: after three years of construction, the Palasthotel in Wiesbaden is opening its doors. Only the crème de la crème have been invited. The resourceful hotel manager, Otto Schick, proudly welcomes his guests. Franz, the hotel bellhop, sweeps the last leaves off the new artificial turf and carries the suitcases into the foyer.
The year is 1905, in Wiesbaden, the Nice of the North. Otto Schick pops the corks and invites everyone to a cocktail (included in the admission price). Experience a journey through the history of Europe’s most modern hotel, featuring running hot, cold, and thermal water in every room. And—long before Wi-Fi and flat-rate plans—every guest already had their own telephone line as early as 1905.
Josh Platman from London brings the turn of the century to life with double bass and piano: classical music, 1920s pop hits, forbidden jazz variations of the 1940s, 1950s hits, rock ’n’ roll, Neue Deutsche Welle, and Eurovision... there’s something for everyone.
Vienna’s long-time hotel guest Hans-Chris von Schnack and housekeeper Elisabeth Wollseif leaf through archival documents whose words have lost none of their relevance. Correspondence from a time when the hotel served as a military hospital, daycare center, and beauty salon. Take a peek through the keyholes! Listen to the music and literature. Stroll among photos and historical artifacts through an unusual cultural evening featuring theater, music, and hotel whispers.
Highlights of history pay tribute to the vibrant past of the former Wiesbaden luxury hotel.
