Ballet "The Visitors
The captivating performance between dance and drama "The Visitors" can be experienced as part of the May Festival on Saturday, May 24, at the Wiesbaden State Theatre, staged by star choreographer Constanza Macras. A further performance will follow on May 25.
"The Visitors" delves into the world of slasher films, a subgenre of horror film with its own narrative codes and aesthetic style. The protagonists of these films are teenagers. Without parents or other adult helpers, they have to fight the monsters alone. The killers are usually the result of the horrors of the past: "The past will come back to haunt you", they say.
In "The Visitors", these themes are highlighted in a South African context: The absence of parents takes on a particular connotation as a result of the state-orchestrated destruction of family structures during apartheid. In addition, we see the "horror" in everyday situations such as dealing with bureaucracy and corruption.
Through non-linear narratives and humorous associations, the young protagonists attempt to free themselves from the grip of these old monsters, to shake off the relentless return of the past and to create new spaces for thought and hope.
