Theater festival
The Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden will kick off its new season on Saturday, August 21, with a grand theater festival. Starting at 2:00 p.m., the theater will open its doors to all curious visitors, culture enthusiasts, and families—with free admission.
During this period, the theater box office will once again offer attractive discounts on tickets and the newly introduced Theater Card. In addition to interactive activities, guided tours (registration starting at 2:00 p.m. at the information booth), and open rehearsals for children and adults, there will be a diverse stage program where the ensembles will introduce themselves and offer glimpses into next season’s productions. Backstage at the Großes Haus, the “Casual Costume Sale” will be held all afternoon, where you can purchase new favorite pieces from the costume collection for everyday wear. Food and beverages will be provided by Theatergastronomie Scholz.
Program for Children and Families
Starting at 2:00 p.m., there will be a colorful family program on Warmer Damm with plenty of hands-on activities: In the “Screw Game” hosted by the locksmith shop, children ages 6 and up can win great prizes. Starting at 3:00 p.m., children can make their own marionettes, and starting at 3:30 p.m., they can craft their own musical instruments. The Maske is offering face painting for children. An ice cream truck will be on hand to help everyone cool off. In case of rain, the program will take place in the colonnades.
Starting at 2:15 p.m., the Studio will present excerpts from the poetic storytelling theater production “When Clouds Grow”
for children ages three and up. At 3:00 p.m., the JUST Ensemble will present “The Blue Wonder Show,” featuring a reading and a quiz, to introduce the new family play “Herr Bello and the Blue Wonder,” which will run starting October 25. For music lovers, there will be a children’s concert titled “Hansel and Gretel” for everyone ages 5 and up at 2:30 p.m. in the foyer; at 4:30 p.m. in the orchestra rehearsal room, there will be a baby concert titled “On the Road with the Colorful Dogs” for the youngest children; and at 5:15 p.m., also in the orchestra rehearsal room, with the children’s concert “The Sinking of the Titanic—The Ship’s Orchestra Remembers” for everyone ages 6 and up.
A diverse stage program with a preview of the new season
A diverse program offering a glimpse into the upcoming season will take place all afternoon in the Main Auditorium. Admission will be in two groups. Starting at 2:45 p.m., the acting ensemble will open the program with a fashion show. Afterward, dramaturg Hanna Kneißler and musical director Paul Taubitz will provide insights into the season’s first musical theater production, “The Tales of Hoffmann,” which premieres on October 10, 2026. The drama ensemble will also perform a musical number in the popular “Wünsch dir deinen Song!” format. In a second segment starting at 4:30 p.m., the musical theater ensemble will present “Music from the Piazza to Broadway,” followed by a video preview of the live theater and film event “Metropolis Wiesbaden.” The JUSM ensemble will close the program with excerpts from the gala show, which was already performed at the 2026 May Festival and was completely sold out. At 3:15 p.m., the ensemble will also perform at the Kleines Haus with excerpts from the musical “Footloose,” which premieres on September 18, 2026.

. At 5:15 p.m., you can join in the excitement of the live radio play “Krimi-Komplizen: Tödliche Kritik” featuring the acting ensemble. At 4:15 p.m. in the Studio, excerpts from “Der Tatortreiniger Vol. 2” will offer a glimpse into a popular production from last season, which returns to the program starting September 13. At 5:00 p.m., the new trainees of the Hessian State Orchestra will introduce themselves with a musical performance under the colonnades.
Behind-the-Scenes Tours: Guided Tours of the Theater
This year, guided tours once again offer rare glimpses behind the scenes and introduce various professions that normally remain hidden from the public. The mask workshop opens its doors at 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.; guided tours of the prop department begin at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m., and the workshops can be visited at 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. Advance registration is required due to limited capacity and begins at 2:00 p.m. at the information desk in the Theaterkolonnaden.
Attractive discounts starting at 2:00 p.m. at the theater box office
Starting at 2:00 p.m., the newly introduced Theater Card will be available at the box office at a discounted price. You can also purchase tickets to numerous plays at half price. Anyone who signs up for a season ticket on that day will receive a voucher for a free ticket to a performance of their choice as a welcome gift.
