Johannes Galli lost his sight as a result of the long-term complications of his diabetes. For 14 years, he received regular treatment at a dialysis center in Wiesbaden. However, his serious illness did not diminish his creative energy or his tireless artistic output. As a result, we can look back today on an exceptionally rich body of work.

With his approximately 400 plays, Johannes Galli has given countless people moving, inspiring, and at the same time highly entertaining theatrical experiences. In addition, over the course of his creative career, he released 75 CDs and 40 books—including nonfiction works, novels, and short stories.

Johannes Galli began his artistic career as a street clown. As early as the 1970s, he offered courses in personal development, particularly clowning courses. He quickly made a name for himself and was regarded in the scene as “the trainer who brings out the best in you.”

Starting in 1979, Johannes Galli began establishing theater groups that staged his plays under his direction. Today, there are ten Galli Theaters in Germany: in Wiesbaden, Berlin, Hamburg, Kiel, Weimar, Erfurt, Frankfurt, Backnang, Tübingen, and Munich. In addition, there is a Galli Theater in New York, four theaters in China, and numerous theater groups that perform his plays all over the world.

Even after his death, Johannes Galli’s work will live on. His plays will continue to be performed at our Galli Theater as well as at the other venues (Wiesbaden, Berlin, Hamburg, Kiel, Weimar, Erfurt, Frankfurt, Backnang, Tübingen, Munich, New York, Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao).
