Above the clouds - Homage to Reinhard Mey
With "Above the Clouds - Homage to Reinhard Mey" by Wiesbaden guitarist Gerhard Weiß, a musical evening celebrating the songs of the great German singer-songwriter and telling of freedom, wanderlust and humanity is on the program at kuenstlerhaus43 on 16 April.
Above the clouds, freedom must surely be boundless... his songs are legendary. They’ve long since come to be about more than just longing, puddles of gasoline, and the scent of coffee. Reinhard Mey is arguably Germany’s most popular singer-songwriter. His lyrics are thought-provoking, socially critical, and political—but above all: personal. Funny, sad—and sometimes all at once. For five decades, Mey’s songs have remained relevant, serving as powerful messages to the world or declarations of love to the heart. Melodies and lyrics in which everyone can find a piece of themselves. “When everything comes together, a song becomes a submarine that penetrates directly through the soul, passing through every channel and every closed lock in the body,” the artist sums it up.
The Wiesbaden-based singer and guitarist Gerhard Weiß presents a curated selection from the musical life of Reinhard Mey, who has written more than 500 songs over the course of his career—a virtually inexhaustible treasure trove. Gerhard Weiß is now returning to kuenstlerhaus43 for the fifth time, presenting a new, carefully curated Mey program each time. Timeless classics like “Über den Wolken” are, of course, a must and always create special moments.
For the audience, that means: close your eyes and enjoy.
