210 years of the Wiesbaden Casino Society
To mark the anniversary of the Wiesbaden Casino Society, Dr. Roman Zieglgänsberger will be giving a guest lecture on Friday, 20 March on the subject of "How a major special exhibition such as 'The Blue Riders' is created".
In March 2026, the Wiesbaden Casino Society will celebrate its 210th anniversary. To mark this occasion, a festive casino dinner will be held in the Herzog-Friedrich-August-Saal on March 20, 2026. In addition to a three-course meal, a special highlight will be a guest lecture by Dr. Roman Zieglgänsberger, curator of classical modern art at the Museum Wiesbaden, entitled "From the initial idea to the opening – How a major special exhibition like Die Blauen Reiterinnen (The Blue Rider Women) comes about."
Exhibition "The Blue Riders" at the Museum Wiesbaden
Everyone knows about the artists' group "Der Blaue Reiter" (The Blue Rider), founded by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc in Munich in 1911, but few people are aware that a large number of female artists contributed to it. Now, for the first time worldwide, the 12 female artists are being presented together in the exhibition "Die Blauen Reiterinnen" (The Blue Rider Women), without whom the now world-famous group would look very different: less international, less open, less thematically diverse.
The lecture focuses on the collaboration between the four institutions (the Lenbachhaus in Munich, the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum in Bremen, the Fondazione Werefkin in Ascona, and the Museum Wiesbaden), which worked together in advance to develop the exhibition concept, research loans, and seek sponsors. All this so that the major international exhibition tour can celebrate its world premiere at the Museum Wiesbaden on October 22, 2026.
