Cycling gives you energy, reduces stress, and is good for the environment. That’s exactly what the Bike to Work Challenge in the summer of 2026 is all about. The campaign promotes sustainable commuting and aims to motivate you to ride your bike more often.

Residents of Mainz and Wiesbaden are encouraged to bike to work—and for other trips—as often as possible instead of driving, from August 16 through September 13. At the same time, the routes you take will be collected and incorporated into the planning of the bike expressway between Mainz and Wiesbaden.

The Bike to Work Challenge kicks off on August 16 at 4 p.m. with a large bike parade featuring a bridge tour. The starting points are the main train stations in Mainz and Wiesbaden, respectively. Afterward, the event will officially open with a panel discussion featuring the transportation officials from both cities, followed by a party as part of the “Stadtgefühle Festival.”
