Brief description:
The construction project "Community Living in Wiesbaden Bierstadt" sees design as an instrument of democratic transformation. In the new development area "Bierstadt Nord," 38 apartments are being built in five buildings—developed on the basis of a concept process that brought together the client, future residents, and planning team at an early stage. Here, architecture is not only designed, but negotiated.
The focus is on how spatial structures shape social processes. Space-efficient private apartments are complemented by communal indoor and outdoor spaces that facilitate exchange, cooperation, and self-organization. The project thus creates a structural framework for intergenerational, self-determined coexistence—a model that understands democratic participation not as an add-on, but as a spatially organized practice.
The planned hybrid timber construction with photovoltaic systems, heat pump technology, and heat recovery also anchors the project in a climate-friendly building culture. Resource efficiency, renewable energy generation, and compact land use are integral components of the concept. The project thus combines social innovation and architectural responsibility to make a concrete contribution to resilient, solidarity-based urban development in Wiesbaden.
