Brief description:
Wiesbaden's hot springs are a natural wonder – but they are increasingly disappearing from the cityscape.
Wiesbaden has more thermal springs than any other UNESCO World Heritage city in Europe. For around 25,000 years, they were the energy source and lifeblood of the city. Eighty years ago, most of these "hot spots" were sealed off – and today they have almost disappeared from urban memory.
SPOT HOT is an invitation to rediscover the hot springs as part of Wiesbaden's DNA on an inspiring walk. Initially, nine "hot spots" in Wiesbaden's historic pentagon are to be revived and revitalized from 2026 onwards – as a growing gallery of the elemental, gradually bringing Wiesbaden's hidden treasure from a depth of 2,000 meters back to the surface and transforming it into hybrid water experiences.
Our goal:
- Making Wiesbaden's DNA visible again
- More democratic, low-threshold, barrier-free access
- Bringing people in the city to new places
- Promoting knowledge, social interaction, and networking
- Learning how water can once again be used as a (geothermal) resource, a healing elixir of life, and a source of sustainability
Dates/period:
August 1 to 31, 2026
Venue(s):
An overview of Wiesbaden's "hottest mile" can be seen in the shop window display at Schwalbacher Str. 25/27, which has been in place since November. It offers "hot facts" about Wiesbaden and a map of the 26 thermal springs (implementation: City Management, design: Kraft & Adel, concept/text: Y. Kirchdorfer).
