Brief description:

StadtGarten Wiesbaden sees urban gardening as a democratic practice in public spaces. Previously unused inner-city areas are being transformed into green, intercultural refuges that combine community gardening, cultural exchange, and productive participation. The aim is to transform neglected "non-places" into vibrant urban spaces that are socially and ecologically effective.

The StadtGarten is more than just a place to hang out—it is a growing community project. Families, volunteers, and interested parties of different backgrounds and age groups design flower beds, tend to plants, keep bees, or organize cultural events such as readings, small festivals, or theater projects. Working together in green spaces reduces language barriers, promotes dialogue, and strengthens awareness of collective responsibility in urban areas. This creates a low-threshold place for democratic negotiation and social networking.

Ecologically, the project focuses on soil sealing, greening, and climate-resilient design. Compacted green spaces, biodiversity-promoting planting, and water retention measures in line with the sponge city principle improve the microclimate and create habitats for insects and birds. The StadtGarten thus combines social participation, ecological regeneration, and urban transformation into a long-term effective model for community-supported inner-city development.
