Brief description:
A vacant department store becomes a space of opportunity:
Everyone is invited to Langgasse 5 to 9: In the heart of Wiesbaden's pedestrian zone, a hotspot for design and dialogue is being created as part of the World Design Capital Year 2026: The Wiesbaden City Museum Foundation, architect Sandra Düsterhus (POINT.Architektur), and Prof. Jörg Waldschütz, together with students from the Communication Design program at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, are transforming the former department store into an open space for exchange, ideas, and social participation.
From May to October 2026, the location will become the WDC WerkRaum Wiesbaden:
Exhibitions, talks, workshops, and participatory activities: Creative and innovative individual projects from the WDC 2026 in Wiesbaden and the surrounding region will be presented here, accompanied by a curated program.
University meets urban society:
Initiated by Sandra Düsterhus and museum director Sabine Philipp, the project is being co-designed by Prof. Jörg Waldschütz and students from the Communication Design program at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. With expert support from Sandra Düsterhus, the students are also developing their own creative approaches in seminars and contributing their perspectives to social discussions.
Participation desired:
The WDC WerkRaum Wiesbaden is a place that invites people to get involved. The aim is to promote intensive exchange between generations, backgrounds, lifestyles, and perspectives—a space that brings social cohesion to life and invites people to negotiate and shape how we want to live in the future.
Support. Network. Co-create.
