Brief description: What is it about?

As part of World Design Capital 2026, the industrial site on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden is taking center stage as a significant testament to the city’s industrial heritage. Two event formats offer different perspectives on the historical legacy and future use of the historic buildings:

At the symposium “Existing Structures as Places of the Future: Site Developments on the Banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden” on September 10 and 11, experts from academia and the professional world will discuss how the demands of a modern working world can be reconciled with the architectural heritage of the industrial era. Using the former power plant hall and Ernst Neufert’s modernist high-rise as examples, the event will present strategies for the adaptive reuse and further development of former industrial buildings and generate new ideas for a sustainable approach to historic buildings.

Members of the Chamber of Architects and Urban Planners of Hesse are eligible to earn ten continuing education credits by attending this symposium.

The symposium will take place on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden—you will receive the exact address in a separate email shortly before the symposium after registering.

In addition, public tours on September 11 at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. will offer insights into the site’s industrial history and take participants behind the scenes of the power plant hall and the Neufert high-rise.
