In May 1970, the executive committee of the German Salaried Employees' Union met for its annual conference in Wiesbaden.

In a letter dated April 27, the union's national executive committee proposed four personalities to the city council for entry in the Golden Book. The politicians welcomed this proposal, so that Mayor Schmitt was able to receive the representatives of the German Salaried Employees' Union in the ballroom of the town hall at 6 p.m. on May 8. He welcomed his guests and expressed his delight that the union had chosen the spa town as the venue for its conference.

Chairman Hermann Brandt expressed his thanks for the warm welcome and praised the Hesse regional association, which was responsible for the smooth organization of the event. He then signed the town's Golden Book together with the Chairman of the Trade Union Council, Johannes Terhaardt, the Speaker of the Advisory Board, Gerhard Becker, and the Head of the Hesse Regional Association, Karl Kaula.
