European Lions Congress

On April 18, 1959, the members of the European Lions Convention signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.

The European Lions Congress was held in Wiesbaden between April 16 and 19, 1959.

The aim of the global organization is to provide human warmth and help in times of greatest need. In order to promote the growing together of peoples and nations, a proposal was therefore drawn up at the congress to connect young people in particular through longer stays at a global university.

In his speech at a Lions reception in the town hall, Lord Mayor Mix expressed his delight that the management committee had chosen the spa town as the venue for the first European Congress.

Director Baurs-Krey and the head of the congress, Hektor von Salis, described the unique charm of the city as an elementary part of the European idea. Both then signed the Golden Book together with the ambassadors from Italy, England, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland. This was followed by the President of the Wiesbaden Lion Club, Senator Erich Plassmann.
