Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled
On September 10, 1966, the board of the International Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
From September 11 to 17, 1966, the tenth World Congress of the International Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled met in Wiesbaden.
The weekend before the official opening, a reception was held for the international representatives in the ballroom of the town hall. Numerous guests attended in their national costumes, including representatives from India and Japan. The presence of the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs of the Soviet Union underlined the cross-border and cross-ideological motivation of the conference participants to promote the rehabilitation of disabled people and their integration into society.
In his speech, Lord Mayor Buch praised this ambitious goal and expressed his delight that the organizers had chosen Wiesbaden as the venue. The President of the de Ruijter Society expressed his thanks for the warm welcome and described his first impression of the spa town as very good. He then signed the city's Golden Book together with the Presidium of the Congress.
This small-scale event was followed on Monday by the official reception of all conference participants by the city council, the Hessian state government and representatives of the federal government in the Kurhaus.
