On June 21, 1995, former Lord Mayor Rudi Schmitt and Prof. Dr. Klaus Miehlke, long-time head physician of the city's rheumatism clinics, were awarded honorary citizenship in the ballroom of Wiesbaden City Hall.
Lord Mayor Achim Exner praised the longstanding commitment of the two to their adopted city.
In his laudatory speech, City Councillor Günter Retzlaff paid tribute to Schmitt's political life's work, which, in addition to his time as Wiesbaden's city leader, also includes mandates in the Hessian State Parliament and the German Bundestag.
Prof. Dr. Miehlke particularly emphasized that with over 200 publications and 1,000 lectures in Germany and abroad, he had contributed greatly to the dissemination of knowledge about the widespread disease rheumatism.
After the honorees had expressed their thanks for the presentation and described the beauty of Wiesbaden and the region, they signed the city's Golden Book.
