Symphony Orchestra of the North German Radio

On August 24, 1993, the director of the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, Günter Wand, signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.

On the occasion of the Rheingau Music Festival, the Symphony Orchestra of the North German Radio Hamburg gave a concert in Wiesbaden in August 1993.

The conductor of the ensemble, Günter Wand, succeeded Carl Schuricht as conductor of the symphony orchestra in the spa town between 1953 and 1956.

At a reception in the town hall on August 24, the artist declared that he would never forget his time in Wiesbaden. He had felt very much at home and had fond memories of this commitment.

Lord Mayor Exner thanked him for his commitment to music and art in Wiesbaden and paid tribute to his musical life's work.

Wand became famous for his recordings of the complete symphonies of Bruckner, Schubert, Brahms and Beethoven.

After the entry in the city's Golden Book, the trombone quartet of the Wiesbaden Music and Art School gave the prominent guest a fitting musical farewell with French dances by the composer Michael Praetorius.
