3rd World Congress of the Deaf

On August 24, 1959, the members of the third World Congress of the Deaf signed the Golden Book of the city of Wiesbaden.

From 22 to 26 August 1959, Dragoljub Vukotic, the President of the World Federation of the Deaf, Cesare Magarotto, the Secretary General and Max Härdtner for the Organizing Committee of the German Federation of the Deaf had invited to the third World Congress of the Deaf in the Rhein-Main-Hallen in Wiesbaden.

In addition to various technical sessions, the program included various cultural highlights such as a visit to the State Theatre, a boat trip on the Rhine and sporting events.

On August 24, Mayor Buch welcomed participants from 41 countries in the ballroom of the town hall. In order to make his speech comprehensible to the deaf guests, it was read out in sign language alongside his words. The president of the association thanked the mayor for the warm welcome and emphasized that all participants would take good memories of Wiesbaden back to their home countries. Afterwards, the Presidium of the International Federation of the Deaf signed the city's Golden Book.
