Vienna Men's Choral Society
On May 9, 1958, the board of the Wiener Männergesangsverein signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
On their return from the Brussels World Exhibition, the Vienna Männergesangsverein made a guest appearance in the spa town on May 9, 1958, in keeping with an old tradition.
The Danube city's first visit to Wiesbaden took place back in 1886. The return visit by the Wiesbaden Men's Choral Society took place in 1899, before the Viennese gave another concert in the state capital in 1926.
Mayor Buch thanked the 170 singers and their 350 companions for strengthening the friendship between the two cities.
The chairman of the Vienna choir and president of the Austrian Sängerbund Saar emphasized the diplomatic importance of music. In the history between Germany and Austria, there have been many highs as well as some lows, but these have not diminished the love of art and music.
The singers then performed the Schubert songs "Wie schön bist du, freundliche Stille" and "Am Brunnen vor dem Tore" before the board of the association signed the city's Golden Book.
Special buses then took the visitors to the Neroberg for afternoon coffee. After a subsequent city tour, the farewell concert of the Vienna Men's Choral Society took place in the evening to the applause of the people of Wiesbaden.
