Housing benefit is financial assistance provided by the state to enable citizens with a low income to live in appropriate and family-friendly housing on a permanent basis.

Tenants of housing and owners of owner-occupied housing receive housing benefit in accordance with the Housing Benefit Act as a subsidy towards rent or monthly charges if they meet the legal requirements.
