Is there currently a crisis?

No, there is currently no crisis. Emergencies and incidents are dealt with as part of daily emergency response. African swine fever (ASF) is also not a crisis, but a special situation. Information on this can be found on the African swine fever page.

How will I be warned in the event of a crisis?

Depending on the situation, you will be warned via various channels, for example via sirens, mobile loudspeaker announcements, digital billboards, messages on the radio or television, mobile communications (cell broadcast) and warning apps such as NINA (opens in a new tab), KATWARN (opens in a new tab), HessenWARN (opens in a new tab) and BIWapp (opens in a new tab). In exceptional situations, we as a city usually also set up an information telephone. Further information can be found on the Warning the population page.

We also provide information via press releases, WhatsApp (opens in a new tab) and social media, for example on Instagram (opens in a new tab)and Facebook (opens in a new tab).

Who is responsible for civil protection?

Civil protection is the responsibility of the federal states. It is regulated by state laws. The interior ministries of the federal states are the supreme disaster control authorities.

Districts and independent cities such as Wiesbaden form the lower disaster control authorities with their specialist offices. The operational implementation of emergency response therefore takes place at municipal level. Wiesbaden has set up the civil protection department within the fire department. On behalf of the Lord Mayor, it is responsible for crisis management as well as disaster and civil protection.

Concepts, plans, regulations and recommendations for action on disaster control can be found in the disaster control information center (opens in a new tab) of the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.
