"Fasanerie in transition": exhibition provides insights into the future

Since Friday, April 25, the exhibition "Fasanerie im Wandel" (Pheasantry in Transition) has been on display in the visitor center of the Wiesbaden pheasantry. Conceived and realized by graphic designer and illustrator Scarlet Arian, the exhibition focuses on climate protection and the preservation of endangered domestic animal breeds.

Lovingly designed and educational: the new exhibition at the Fasanerie.

"With this exhibition, the Fasanerie impressively demonstrates how a park rich in tradition can continuously develop in order to combine nature experience, species protection and climate education in an innovative way," explained Mayor Christiane Hinninger.

Under the title "Climate Saviors", the exhibition illustrates the effects of climate change and presents concrete approaches for sustainable action, focusing on sustainable nutrition, climate-friendly gardening and resource conservation. Visitors learn how they can actively contribute to climate protection through conscious consumer choices and sustainable lifestyles. This section of the exhibition was created as part of the "Shaping Wiesbaden's climate education landscape" cooperation between the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment and the state capital of Wiesbaden.

The second focus of the exhibition is the topic of species protection. As an archaeological park, the pheasantry is committed to the preservation of endangered livestock breeds and raises awareness for the protection of biodiversity. The content is directly linked to the Archepark, where rare breeds of domestic animals and their importance are presented in a child-friendly way.

This is complemented by the adjacent community and farm garden, which shows how climate-friendly gardening can be achieved in a very practical way. In this way, sustainable action from the barn to the seedbed becomes vivid and tangible - for explorers young and old.

The exhibition invites visitors to question their own behavior and recognize social connections - all in the spirit of education for sustainable development, which is firmly anchored in the work of the Fasanerie.

This is a clear statement for environmental awareness and sustainability. "The Fasanerie is not only a place of recreation, but also an important educational location. With this exhibition, we are promoting environmental awareness and sustainability - without lecturing, but with the joy of discovery," said Mayor Hinninger.

The exhibition is expected to be on display in the park's visitor center from Thursday to Sunday until the end of October.

Background Ark Park or Ark Farm

The designation as an Ark Park is a recognition of breeding work with endangered breeds. Compliance with the criteria is checked at regular intervals. Recognized farms and facilities may use the protected Ark logo for their own advertising.

Background to the Ark Region

In 2022, the Taunus Ark Region was recognized by the Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Domestic Animal Breeds (GEH) as the third Ark Region in Germany. A second recognized Ark Region in Hesse is the Ark Region Kellerwald Frankenau and surroundings. In the Ark Region, several certified farms work together to integrate the old livestock breeds into agriculture, to carry out public relations work and to focus on the special characteristics of the old livestock breeds

Background Society GEH

The Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Livestock Breeds (GEH) is committed to the preservation of endangered livestock breeds, which represent an important genetic reserve and are of cultural and historical value. Through broad public relations work for the active preservation of livestock, exhibitions, coordination of interested parties and breeders, data collection and regional group work, the currently 2,200 members are committed to the old livestock breeds. The focus here is on extensive farming, nature conservation and landscape management, animal-friendly livestock farming, agricultural education and the production of quality products. Close cooperation with associations and authorities contributes significantly to the successful conservation measures.
