Syrian Orthodox burial
The majority of the faithful of the Syrian Orthodox Church have found a new home in Western European countries after fleeing. Just over 300,000 Syrian Orthodox Arameans live in Europe today, around 100,000 of them in Germany. Resettlement to their old homeland also appears difficult due to the ongoing civil war in Syria.
As the state capital of Wiesbaden has prepared itself to offer many Syrian families a permanent home, there naturally had to be facilities to allow burials according to the Syrian Orthodox rite. In 2007, a special burial ground was created for this purpose in section C 03 of the South Cemetery, and an extension is planned for section A 17.
