Although the cemetery was laid out in 1864 and its area repeatedly enlarged in the following years, some sections of the original enclosing wall have been preserved and, above all, the cemetery administration stuck to the division of the cemetery area, which provided for a cross shape in the main axes by means of a longitudinal and a transverse path.
The former central memorial stone for the participants and fallen of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 was only recently moved to the green area in front of the cemetery entrance for reasons of space. Here too, in 1896, the Auringen Warriors' and Military Association opted for an obelisk made of sandstone, in keeping with the taste of the time. Auringen lost a single citizen and so Johann Georg David Ruf was honored in the inscription on the 25th anniversary of his death.
The outer memorial is used as a central memorial for the victims of the three wars, especially on Remembrance Day. The inner memorial in the form of a cross, with its stone slabs commemorating the fallen of the Second World War, remains a listed monument.
