Before 1819, the cemetery was located in the courtyard of today's Breckenheim Protestant Church. On the site of today's cemetery on Bergwiesenstraße, the only older gravesite that has been preserved centrally is that of Pastor Walther, who led the parish from 1910 to 1926 and was buried here under a striking large black stone.

A simple soldier's grave of a fallen soldier from the Eifel will be preserved and maintained here until 2045. It is thanks to the commitment of Breckenheim mayor Willi Blankemeyer that a mourning hall was built, which he consistently demanded for the area after the cemetery was expanded in 1979. Until then, there was only a small mortuary in which only one deceased person could be laid to rest and which was no longer able to cope with Breckenheim's growth. A third large extension to the cemetery grounds, which now cover more than 13 hectares, became necessary in 2011.

The following types of grave are possible at Breckenheim cemetery:

- Burial plot

- Burial plot for children

- Burial in a row

- Urn ballot grave

- Tree grove grave

- Urn chamber/urn wall
