You're Part of It: Action Week Against Loneliness
Under the slogan “You Belong,” the city of Wiesbaden is participating in the nationwide week of action against loneliness from Monday through Friday, June 22–26.
The city of Wiesbaden is participating in the nationwide Action Week Against Loneliness from Monday through Friday, June 22–26. Under the motto “You Belong,” the Department of Senior Services at the Office of Social Work, together with numerous partners, is hosting a diverse program for people of all ages. The goal is to foster connections, strengthen community, and raise public awareness of the issue of loneliness.
Start at Schlossplatz
Loneliness is not a marginal phenomenon. It affects people in all stages and circumstances of life—regardless of age or place of residence. With this action week, the state capital of Wiesbaden is sending a clear message in support of greater community spirit. All events are deliberately designed to be easily accessible and are available free of charge or for a small fee. The week kicks off on Monday, June 22, at 4 p.m. with a flash mob on Schlossplatz. Dr. Patricia Becher, Commissioner for Social Affairs, will welcome the participants.
Head of Social Affairs Dr. Patricia BecherLoneliness can affect people of all ages. This makes places and opportunities that foster connections and strengthen community all the more important. Through this action week, we aim to bring people together, raise awareness of existing resources, and encourage people to make new connections.
Over the next few days, the program will include, among other things, breakfast gatherings in the city’s neighborhoods, an intergenerational brunch, a guided tour of the Fasanerie, game afternoons, a storytelling café, and a “thinking café” with bingo. A stroll through Biebrich Castle Park with coffee and cake at the Martin Hörner Center, as well as a “Community Market,” round out the program. The “Community Marketplace” at the Galatea Park in Biebrich invites visitors to learn about local initiatives and support services offered by civil society.
The action week is supported by a broad network of welfare associations, social organizations, and other stakeholders in Wiesbaden’s civic society. These include, among others, the Diakonie, the Workers’ Welfare Association (AWO), the Maltese Order, the Johanniter, the Hospice Association, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
