Women and democracy.

On March 15, local elections and elections for the Foreigners' Advisory Council will take place in Hesse—important elections for local democracy. For women in particular—with and without a migration background—these elections offer the opportunity to represent their interests, have a say, and take on social responsibility. On this page, you will find information, events, and ideas to support you.

March 4 Online event: More room for diversity in local politics - but how?

Women continue to be underrepresented in local politics, especially those with different life experiences and perspectives. This includes women with a migration background, young women, women with care responsibilities, and women from non-academic backgrounds. Although they shape social diversity at the local level, this diversity is still insufficiently reflected in political bodies.

On Wednesday, March 4, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the online event "More space for diversity in local politics – but how?" will take place. Here, Cécile Weidhofer, Director at EAF Berlin, will highlight key challenges and present practical approaches for strengthening political diversity. Advance registration is required. The event is organized by BüroF, the Landesfrauenrat Hessen (Hesse State Women's Council), and the Kommunale Frauenbeauftragte Wiesbaden (Wiesbaden Municipal Women's Representative).

May 7 Online event: Argumentation against right-wing and sexist slogans

This online event will take place on Thursday, May 7, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. All participants are encouraged to raise their voices in a safe space and will be sensitized to the issues of discrimination and prejudice. All participants will have the opportunity to try out rhetorical strategies and techniques in various practical exercises. Advance registration is required.

Looking back: Kick-off on February 24, 2026

On Tuesday, February 24, a public panel discussion and kick-off event entitled "Democracy Needs Women" took place in the city council chamber at City Hall. The aim was to encourage women to get involved in politics and use their voices. The event was organized by the Municipal Women's Department, the Office for Immigration and Integration of the State Capital of Wiesbaden, and the Office for Civic Women's Work (BüroF).

The event was filmed live. The recording will be available shortly.
