Primary school childcare

Childcare for primary school children is an important part of education and family policy in Wiesbaden. It offers children reliable, structured and educationally valuable afternoon care.

The care is provided by school support associations and independent providers. Places are allocated directly by the childcare providers at the respective schools.

Primary school childcare has continued to develop and professionalize. Around 6,900 childcare places are now offered, including 728 places in all-day care (profile 1-3) and 2,679 places in the all-day care pact (as of August 2024). Elementary school in the all-day pact offer a reliable and high-quality education and childcare service in which school and childcare are closely interlinked.

Primary school childcare has become an important building block for families in Wiesbaden, as it makes a fundamental contribution to a better work-life balance.

The basis for the childcare services is provided by Section 15 of the Hessian School Act. The Office for Social Work acts as the funding body and defines the quality standards.
