Lunch plays a vital role in schools’ full-day programs and in the implementation of the legal right to childcare for elementary school-aged children. A hot lunch in elementary schools is a fundamental part of the educational approach and is therefore mandatory.
Lunch at Wiesbaden schools
Lunch provides students with the energy they need to stay focused in class and participate in the wide range of afternoon activities. In addition, a balanced lunch contributes to their physical and mental development.
Furthermore, eating lunch together also has social benefits. It gives students the opportunity to meet, talk with one another, and develop social skills. It also fosters a sense of community and belonging at school.
A balanced lunch improves students’ academic performance and contributes to their overall well-being.
We ensure that approximately 12,000 students at currently 69 schools in Wiesbaden receive a balanced and child-friendly lunch every day.

Lunch Registration
Depending on the type of school, lunch registration can be done through
- the respective school
- the local school district, or
- directly through the caterer

You can usually obtain the necessary registration forms from the school, the after-school care provider, or the caterers.
Lunch Billing
There are three payment options for lunch:
- Through the local childcare provider
- Directly through the caterer, or
- Through the City of Wiesbaden, Office of Social Services, Department of Elementary School Child Care and Full-Day Programs.
You can find out which billing model is used at your school by contacting the school. This information is usually also provided on the respective registration form.

Costs
Costs may vary depending on the school and program. You can find out the parent fee that applies to you by contacting the school or checking the registration form. The billing period is the school year from August 1 to July 31 of the following year.
- Elementary schools and the elementary levels of special education schools:
The parental contribution for lunch is 85 euros per month. - Secondary schools starting in grade 5:
For students in secondary schools, the lunch fee is 4.25 euros per day.
Payment
If you are our direct contract partner, the payment will be debited monthly on the first business day via SEPA direct debit. The payment description will read: "Lunch, school name, child's name.
" You will not receive a separate notification regarding the debit.
