Islamic burials

Wiesbaden is a multicultural and multi-religious city where people from all over the world have found a home. Numerous cultural and religious traditions characterize the city community today, including Islamic traditions, including Islamic burial customs.

The German Basic Law guarantees us all freedom of religion. Individual religious rules and commandments should also be taken into account in the event of death.

The city of Wiesbaden has been offering Muslim citizens burials for Muslims at the South Cemetery since 1992. Since 2013, the Hessian Cemetery Act has made coffinless burial possible. Upon request, a burial in a shroud can now be carried out by a funeral home in Wiesbaden. A shortening of the usual burial period in Hesse from 48 hours to 24 hours can also be made possible on request under certain conditions.
