Read with me!

Volunteer reading mentors read age-appropriate stories to children of kindergarten and primary school age. Being read stories is an important element of early childhood education and trains concentration, imagination and logical thinking.

Children who come into contact with books at an early age and are read to from an early age find it easier to read independently later on. Later on, they are less likely to have problems at school and at work.

In order to give children who are not lucky enough to be read to regularly better opportunities in early childhood education, the Office for Immigration and Integration developed the "Read with me!" project in 2009. Since then, trained readers have been reading to children in daycare centers, elementary school, district facilities and numerous other places.

Since 2011, the project has been successfully continued by the association "MitInitiative e. V." (opens in a new tab) in cooperation with the Office for Immigration and Integration.
