School social work services

YOU are CALLED

Once a year, committed companies in Wiesbaden open their doors to pupils from schools with a youth social work program. For some, it's a week to immerse themselves in the world of work. For others, it's a chance to get to know motivated young professionals.

DU bist BERUFen - the movie

YOU are CALLED

For more than twelve years, the week before the fall break has traditionally been known as "DU bist BERUFen" (YOU are CALLED). The idea behind this is to combine social engagement, career orientation, and the promotion of young talent. To this end, committed companies in Wiesbaden offer school students the opportunity to work in the company for a week. DU bist BERUFen is more than just an internship. This is because (in most cases) several school students are allowed to join a company where a special project awaits them, on which they work for a week.

Whether it's large concrete letters that are cast to be placed in front of a school later on, the planning and design of a small garden, or the planning and construction of a model house that will be freshly painted and electrified by the end of the week. But it's not just the skilled trades that are involved in DU bist BERUFen; it's also possible to "immerse" yourself in the world of a swimming pool with all its IT-supported processes, its (safety) technical challenges, and the supervision of bathers. DU bist BERUFen is rounded off by the involvement of various daycare centers in the state capital of Wiesbaden and numerous industrial companies and businesses where students can learn about commercial, hospitality, and customer-oriented professions as well as office jobs. All of the companies share the common idea of enabling young people in Wiesbaden to have a (professional) future.

Around 80 students participate in DU bist BERUFen, and the number of applicants is almost twice as high. To introduce themselves to their desired company, the students create one-minute application videos. In these videos, they introduce themselves and explain why they would like to work for this company. Then it is up to the companies to make their selection. There are around 17 companies that are continuously involved. Year after year, they invest a lot of time, personnel, and money in the preparation and implementation to offer the students a practical, varied week. A week in which both sides invest in the future: the students by orienting themselves professionally and considering whether this profession is the right one for them. The companies get to spend a week getting to know interested and committed young people and assessing whether they would like to offer them an apprenticeship. At the end of the DU bist BERUFen week, there is not only individual feedback for each student, but also offers of internships and apprenticeships – not to mention a big closing ceremony, during which students and companies are honored for their commitment.

DU bist BERUFen is part of the WIESBADEN ENGAGIERT!

In 2026, the DU bist BERUFen week will take place from September 28 to October 2.
