Fondettes (France)
The town twinning between Naurod and Fondettes, the "Garden of France", which was sealed in 1975, is characterized by frequent friendly visits.
Worth knowing
The wish of Naurod native Gudrun Menant, who wanted to get in touch with people from her home country, was the catalyst for the town twinning between Naurod and Fondettes. Her husband Jean-Claude initiated the establishment of the town twinning with a letter to the mayor Jean Roux. On July 14, 1974, the French national holiday, a Naurod delegation traveled to Fondettes. In the same year, the municipal councils decided on a "Jumelage Fondettes-Naurod". In May 1975, the mayors Heinz Rieth and Jean Roux signed a partnership certificate.
On September 7, 1976, the Naurod - Fondettes twinning association was founded, with Karl Dyx as its first chairman.
Fondettes has around 11,000 inhabitants and is located in the Départment Indre-et Loire, around ten kilometers northwest of Tours. The town impresses with its history and cultural offerings. Thanks to its location in the heart of Touraine, Fondettes is ideal for hiking, walking and mountain biking tours. The town also offers a variety of cultural events and a wide range of wellness and sports facilities.
The people from Fondettes, which is steeped in history, and the Wiesbaden district of Naurod have many close friendships. The fact that relations between the two towns are so close is primarily due to the commitment of the two twinning associations - the "Partnerschaftsverein Naurod-Fondettes e.V." on the German side and the "Comité de Jumelage Fondettes-Naurod" on the French side. The associations' activities include exchanges for school groups and trips for young people and adults. Delegations from both towns almost always travel to festivities in Fondettes and Naurod and actively participate in the respective programs. Accommodation in host families has led and continues to lead to intensive connections and often also to close friendships between Nauroders and Fondetters. (opens in a new tab)
