25 years of ÖKOPROFIT Wiesbaden
50 companies were honored as Ökoprofit companies 2024/2025 on September 23, 2025 in the Kurhaus of the state capital Wiesbaden. The environmental and climate management program is thus celebrating its 25th anniversary and thus 25 years of sustainability in the economy.
For a quarter of a century, companies and organizations in Wiesbaden have been working with the city to improve environmental and climate protection. The city's ÖKOPROFIT program stands for sustainable, resource-conserving business practices that combine economic success with a sense of ecological responsibility.

In autumn 2025, the companies and organizations of the 16th ÖKOPROFIT round 2024/2025 were honored for their exemplary environmental commitment by Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, Mayor Christiane Hinninger and IHK President Jörg Brömer as "ÖKOPROFIT companies 2024/2025" at the anniversary celebration in Wiesbaden's Kurhaus.
The spectrum of participating companies is broad: from healthcare to media, IT and insurance to the construction industry, many new sectors are represented, as are municipal institutions and the Wiesbaden Chamber of Industry and Commerce itself. This diversity shows how much awareness of sustainable business has grown in Wiesbaden and the region. With each new round of the program, the participating companies provide important impetus for local climate and resource protection.
Success after 25 years of ÖKOPROFIT Wiesbaden
Since its launch in 2000, 160 companies have already participated in Ökoprofit and received over 500 certificates. Together they have achieved the following savings on the basis of an extrapolation:
- 725 million kilowatt hours of electricity and heat
- 8.2 million liters of fuel
- around 500,000 tons of CO₂
- 505 million liters of water
- over 9,000 tons of raw materials and waste
- Cost savings totaling 80 million euros
These figures not only reflect the effectiveness of the program, but also contribute to improving the quality of life and the environment in Wiesbaden.
Cooperation between municipalities and local businesses
Beyond the local level, ÖKOPROFIT is part of a nationwide network that includes over 120 municipalities and pursues climate and sustainability goals together with companies as part of various initiatives. As part of the 16th round, 34 ÖKOPROFIT Club companies were able to further increase their energy efficiency and commit to binding savings targets as part of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Networks initiative.
