Reading: Different in the future

Jürgen Drieschmanns, a long-time vocational school teacher from Wiesbaden, will be presenting his book in a reading on August 25 at 6 p.m. in the Umweltladen. The event offers food for thought on how justice and sustainability can be thought of and shaped together in our society.

Book cover 'In Zukunft anders' by Jürgen Drieschmann with subtitle 'Impulse für eine gerechte und enkeltaugliche Wirtschaft'.

At a time when ecological crises, growing social inequalities and global conflicts are shaping everyday life, Drieschmanns says there is a growing realization that the economic and social challenges of our time can no longer be solved with the thought patterns and doctrines of past centuries.

In his book, the author combines personal experiences with analyses and concrete proposals for a fair, sustainable economic order. He addresses key topics such as wealth distribution, equal opportunities, capitalism, interest rates and the role of language in economic discourse. The book will be published by Oekom Verlag in October.

He shows particularly impressively how the finite nature of natural resources, the unequal distribution of growth successes and asymmetrical trade relations endanger social peace and ecological stability in the long term. Using the example of the textile industry, he illustrates global injustices - but also opportunities to actively shape change.

The author advocates an economic development path that is geared towards preserving our livelihoods and at the same time assumes global responsibility. "Our democracy gives us the opportunity to shape this path together in discourse," says Drieschmanns.

Admission to the reading is free. As places in the Umweltladen are limited, please register by sending an e-mail to umweltberatungwiesbadende or calling 0611 /313600.
