City full of life - Biological diversity between forest, meadow and balcony

A visit to beavers, partridges and wild bees: the exhibition "Stadt voller Leben" (City full of life), which can be seen in the Umweltladen from April 15 to July 30, shows just how diverse and lively Wiesbaden's nature is. It invites all citizens to discover nature in their own city from a new perspective.

Poster with the headline 'City full of life' shows a flying bat in front of a stylized city silhouette and informs about an exhibition on biodiversity between forest, meadow and balcony in the Umweltladen Wiesbaden.

City full of life" exhibition

The focus is on a tiny explorer: the pipistrelle bat. On her journey through Wiesbaden, she guides visitors through various habitats—from forests to meadows and bodies of water, all the way to gardens and balconies. Everywhere she goes, she encounters animals and plants that demonstrate how important her habitat is and what they need to survive.

It becomes clear: the diversity of nature—known as biodiversity—is the foundation of our lives. It ensures clean water, fertile soil, plant pollination, and a stable climate. At the same time, it is also omnipresent in the city if you look closely.

The exhibition explains in an accessible way what biological diversity means and why protecting it is so important. Especially in a city like Wiesbaden, even small areas play a major role—such as gardens, green spaces, or balconies, which serve as important stepping stones in nature’s network.

And everyone can contribute in their daily lives to strengthening nature right on their own doorstep. With many concrete examples and practical tips for everyday life, the exhibition encourages visitors to take action.
