January environmental tip: Reduce heating costs, enjoy more comfort
How about a New Year's resolution that really pays off? Have your heating system checked now! Hydraulic balancing makes your heating system more efficient.
Typical problems of poorly adjusted heating systems
If a heating system is not set optimally, it often consumes significantly more energy than necessary. While radiators close to the pump are usually oversupplied, there is often too little heating water in rooms further away. The result: uneven room temperatures.
The response is often to increase the pump output or the flow temperature. However, this only increases energy consumption, not comfort. In addition to possible annoying flow noises and increased heat losses, it can lead to the return temperature remaining too high. According to the consumer advice center, this is particularly crucial for the efficient operation of heat pumps and hybrid heating systems that combine different heat generators. However, district heating connections and even older heating systems also benefit from this. In the case of heating systems with condensing boiler technology, the desired condensing boiler benefit can be completely lost due to a high return temperature.
How balancing optimally supports the heating technology
Hydraulic balancing ensures that each radiator receives exactly the required amount of heating water. In this way, the heat is distributed evenly throughout the house and the flow temperature can be set at an optimally low level. It is also a prerequisite for many subsidy programs and should not be missing from any new heating system.
Specialist knowledge required
Hydronic balancing requires in-depth specialist knowledge and calculation software and must therefore be carried out by a specialist company. The consumer advice center recommends that you make sure you receive full documentation of the underlying calculations from the company. Depending on the procedure, the basic costs can range from 750 to 1,200 euros, but often pay for themselves after just a few years. In addition, subsidies are available for hydraulic balancing.
Energy advice from the Hesse Consumer Advice Center
The energy advice service of the Hesse Consumer Advice Center provides expert and provider-independent advice on hydraulic balancing, heating technology and all aspects of private energy consumption at the Umweltladen Wiesbaden and other locations.
Dipl.-Ing. Jürgen Sabeder offers personal energy advice from the Hesse Consumer Advice Center every second Wednesday of the month from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Umweltladen Wiesbaden in Luisenstraße 19. Telephone consultations are offered every fourth Monday and fourth Wednesday of the month. A consultation lasts approx. 45 minutes and is free of charge. Appointments can be made at the Umweltladen on 0611 313600 or directly with the consumer advice center on 0800 809 802 400. If necessary, an energy expert from the consumer advice center will also come to your home (personal contribution 40 euros).
The energy advice provided by the consumer advice center is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
The environmental tip of the month is based on a text from the Hesse Consumer Advice Center.
