Ceremony Marking the 100th Anniversary of the Incorporation of Biebrich, Schierstein, and Sonnenberg

At a ceremony held on the eve of the city festival, the state capital of Wiesbaden commemorated the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of Biebrich, Schierstein, and Sonnenberg on Friday, September 25, 2026, in the ballroom of Wiesbaden City Hall.

In addition to the symbolic presentation of an anniversary certificate by Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, the director of the City Archives, Dr. Peter Quadflieg, delivered the commemorative lecture on the history of the incorporations and also presented the new book in the City Archives’ publication series—a collection of primary sources on all incorporations into Wiesbaden.

Dr. Thomas Weichel provided an introduction to the exhibition on the annexations, which opened at the end of the ceremony. The three annexed districts were, of course, also represented: on behalf of Biebrich, District Chairman Markus Michel delivered a welcoming address; the Sonnenberg Men’s Chamber Choir participated in the evening program; and the “Shantys” were there from Schierstein.
