Childminders work independently and usually in their own household. They are fully qualified in theory and practice before they receive a care license.

Freelance activity

Childcare providers work independently and typically in their own homes. This allows them to effectively balance family and professional responsibilities.

A license is required to practice this profession. Prerequisites include personal suitability, the suitability of the child care facility’s premises, and thorough preparation for the role through the successful completion of a qualification course (QHB). A maximum of five children may be cared for.

Prospective child care providers should possess the following skills:

  • Enjoyment of everyday life with children
  • respect children’s individuality, recognize their needs, and provide them with opportunities to support their development
  • An interest in obtaining certification and continuing professional development
  • Good knowledge of German
  • Reliability, as well as a willingness to communicate and cooperate

In Wiesbaden, there are various forms and services of child day care: One unique model of child day care in Wiesbaden is the “Kinderbrücke.” The concept includes specialized professional support, networking, and a substitute care system. In addition to the traditional model (care provided in one’s own home), there is also the option to work as a child care provider in other suitable facilities (such as a children’s home).

One of the requirements for working as a child care provider is completing a training course in accordance with the Child Day Care Qualification Manual. For more information, please contact the relevant Child Day Care Office or the “Treffpunkt Kindertagespflege” Counseling and Placement Center at 0611 314263 or kindertagespflegewiesbadende.
