The Kastelino Daycare Center in Mainz-Kastel offers children ages three through school entry a safe and stimulating environment for learning, exploring, and feeling at home. Our educational approach is based on the situational approach and an open-concept model. The children’s interests, needs, and everyday realities are at the center of our work. The children are free to move about the center’s various learning areas and decide for themselves where, with whom, and with what they would like to play and learn.
It is particularly important to us to recognize each child’s individuality and to support them in their independence, social learning, and personal development. Through a variety of spaces for movement, creativity, role-play, construction, as well as retreat and quiet time, we create an environment that invites children to explore and experiment on their own.
Another key focus is participation: Children are actively involved in decisions regarding daily life at the daycare center—for example, in children’s conferences, in planning projects and celebrations, and in establishing rules for living together. In this way, they experience shared decision-making, responsibility, and democratic action from an early age.
We view our collaboration with families as a trusting partnership in education and child-rearing on an equal footing. Regular discussions, shared activities, and digital communication and developmental documentation via the Famly app facilitate close communication between parents and the educational team.

Through our preschool program “SchuWiDu – You’re Becoming a Schoolchild,” we gently and individually guide the children on their journey to elementary school and support them in developing important linguistic, social, motor, and cognitive skills.
