The Friedrich-Engels-Weg daycare center is located in the western part of the state capital, Wiesbaden, and is part of the Dotzheim neighborhood. Bordering the city forest, our facility is surrounded by nature and offers a wide range of opportunities for outings. Our daycare center has 5 groups for children ages 2–6. We follow the Freinet+ approach. This educational philosophy was developed by Célestin Freinet together with his wife, Élise. “Children are explorers and researchers. They engage with materials, objects, and opportunities when their hunger for life and activity is ignited—that is, when these things become important in their lives” (Freinet). Here at our daycare, we want to give children a voice and provide them with the space to explore and discover. Each child learns through independent work in an environment prepared to meet their needs and acquires knowledge through dialogue with adults and other children. Group activities and projects provide a variety of learning opportunities.
Parents can expect the following at our daycare:
Daily time spent outdoors and regular field trips
A pottery studio, a woodworking shop, a media room, and an art studio
A large movement room equipped with Hengstenberg materials, among other things
A theater corner and library
Weekly early music education with a trained music educator
Annual preschool programs that support the transition to school
Three balanced meals a day, freshly prepared on-site using seasonal ingredients.
Healthy nutrition plays a major role in our educational work; our daycare center undergoes regular inspections by the DGE (German Nutrition Society) with the goal of obtaining Fit KID certification. In addition, we participate in the federal “Sprach-Kitas” program, as we place special emphasis on promoting the language development of all children.
