Experience Bats—A Nighttime Discovery Tour
Experience the fascinating world of bats and use a bat detector to hear the animals’ calls, which are otherwise inaudible to humans. The Environmental Agency, in collaboration with the Nature Conservation Center, is offering an exciting bat-watching excursion on Friday, August 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the former Kalkofen quarry in Erbenheim.
As twilight falls, the secret life of bats begins. Experience these fascinating masters of flight on an exciting excursion for International Bat Night 2026. Together with bat expert Olaf Godmann, you’ll explore the important bat winter roost in the former Kalkofen quarry and learn interesting facts about the habits of native species, their amazing abilities, and why protecting them is so important.
Using a bat detector is a special experience: it makes the animals’ calls—which are inaudible to us—hearable and offers a completely new perspective on the nocturnal world.
Participation is free and limited to 30 people. Registration is required.
