Wiesbaden Is Turning the Tide
How will Wiesbaden be heated in the future? What role will district heating, heat pumps, and other heating systems play? Answers to these and many other questions can be found at the exhibition “Wiesbaden Makes the Transition,” on view from August 13, 2026, through January 30, 2027, at the Umweltladen Wiesbaden.
The exhibition clearly explains what the future of heat supply might look like, what developments are planned in Wiesbaden, and what options are available to homeowners and renters. It provides guidance and helps visitors better understand the heat transition and make the right decisions for their own future.
Why is the heating transition important?
In Wiesbaden, more than 80 percent of buildings are still heated with oil and natural gas. As a result, about one-third of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions come from heat supply. Through its Municipal Heat Plan, Wiesbaden is demonstrating how the city’s heat supply can be made, step by step, more climate-friendly, less dependent on fossil fuels, and more focused on local energy sources. By 2045, greenhouse gas emissions from the heat supply are expected to decrease by about 93 percent compared to today.

ESWE Versorgung and the Wiesbaden Climate Protection Agency will provide information on municipal heating planning, the expansion of district heating in the city center, as well as suitable heating solutions and funding opportunities.
