Typical Wiesbaden

With Vanessa through the Westend

The Westend is Wiesbaden's liveliest district. Vanessa Engeln from the "Schwarte" book café takes us to her favorite places!

View into the bookshop

Fräulein Quellgeflüster: Your book café is a special place here in the Westend ...
Vanessa : I love the fact that our audience is so diverse: children come to pick up their books, schoolchildren do their homework here, families, students and we have reading clubs that meet here. It's a cross-section of all age groups. I think the common thread is a love of books.

Fräulein Quellgeflüster: What do you like about the Westend?
Vanessa : The Westend is the warmest place in Wiesbaden, and also the most feminist :-) With its galleries, cafés, small stores, culture and art, Wiesbaden feels like home here!

Fräulein Quellgeflüster: Where do you like to spend time?
Vanessa: I love the Art Nouveau houses in Scharnhorts- and Goebenstraße, the trees, the Wellritz Valley. The "hier & jetzt" bakery and café, exhibition spaces like Godot, the pop-up stores, the flea markets and the Kiezgarten.

Fräulein Quellgeflüster: And what is on offer culturally in the Westend?
Vanessa: Small exhibitions, artists opening up their backyards, readings and performances at Theaterwerkstatt Emma and much more. I can't take part in everything because I'm in my store so often ;-)

Not to be missed in the Westend:
