Featuring selected works of art from the Artothek, “Kuckuck Kunstguck” offers insights into the city’s art collection in the Kunsthaus foyer, complementing the exhibitions. From Thursday, August 27, 2026, through Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Artothek will present “Another Perspective” by Aliou Diack to accompany the exhibition “Grace Schwindt: Autumn Leaves (Witnesses).”

“If you want to know what God thinks of money, look at who He gave it to.”

Dorothy Parker (1893–1967) became a legend through her sarcasm, irony, and sharp-tongued wit. And with this quote from the American writer, theater and literary critic, Aliou Diack immediately introduces us to his visual world.

“If you want to know what God thinks about money, look at the people He’s given it to.” 

Aliou Diack was born in 1987 in a village on the edge of the jungle in Sidi Bougou, in the Mbour region of Dakar, Senegal. At the age of ten, he moved to downtown Dakar. He compensated for the precarious living conditions and the lack of nature by ceaselessly sketching the proportions, colors, and textures of flora and fauna. In the sketchbooks he created in this way, he brings together nature, tradition, spirituality, and avant-garde aesthetics. These sketchbooks attracted attention and ultimately enabled him to study art at the École Nationale des Arts de Dakar. His watercolor drawings take the form of travel diaries. 

The watercolor “Another Perspective” from 2025, part of the “Artist Travel Diary” series, is part of the Municipal Art Collection of the State Capital of Wiesbaden and will be available for loan at the Artothek starting November 10, 2026.
