In 1965, Dinges was offered a trainee position in the political editorial department of the Wiesbadener Kurier. At the same time, he was a correspondent for the "Darmstädter Echo".
A member of the "Hessischer Journalistenverband" (hjv, today's DJV Hessen) since July 1, 1965, he was committed to freedom of the press and journalism issues on the state board.
From 1969-2005, he worked for Hessischer Rundfunk (HR), mainly as a state political correspondent for HR in the Hessian state parliament and as head of the Wiesbaden state studio. His knowledge of Hessian state politics was widely appreciated.
The director of HR, Dr. Helmut Reitze, paid tribute to him as a "Hesse archive on two legs" at his farewell in 2005. Dinges was honorary chairman of the state press conference in Wiesbaden for over 30 years. In 2005, he was awarded the "Hessian Order of Merit".
