Factory owner, local historian
born: 17.03.1867 in Geisenheim
died: 04.08.1943 in Wiesbaden
After leaving school, Zobus completed a commercial apprenticeship in Frankfurt am Main, Mannheim and London. In 1888, he joined the wine vinegar factory founded by his grandfather in Geisenheim. He became an authorized signatory in 1892, took over the company in 1900 and started vinegar and mustard production in Biebrich at Hagenauerstraße 19 in 1924 under the name "Fa. V. Zobus - Sohn". He ran the company until his death.
In addition to his professional activities, he was intensively involved with the history of the town of Geisenheim and the Rheingau and published numerous hist. contributions. He was also a collector of books and pictures, paintings, hand drawings and engravings of the Rhine, the Rheingau and the entire Nassau region. His plan to make his extensive collection accessible to the general public in a museum was not realized due to the war and his death.
In 1949, the company was converted into a limited partnership. In 1988, the plant in Wiesbaden-Biebrich was closed and the company headquarters moved to Esslingen am Neckar to the headquarters of Hengstenberg GmbH & Co.
