Environmental information Wiesbaden

The Environmental Agency's newsletter provides information on nature and environmental issues in Wiesbaden and invites citizens to get involved.

Sometimes change begins very quietly: with the first warm day of spring, the buzz of a wild bee on the balcony, or reaching for a screwdriver. Whether we’re learning to fix our bike, bringing a broken favorite item back to life at a Repair Café, or realizing how we can curb invasive species—it’s these small decisions that, when added together, make a big difference. Almost like a mosaic: each individual tile seems insignificant, but together they create a wonderful picture.

Speaking of stones: Have you ever heard of a “stepping-stone habitat”? These are small, nature-inspired habitats scattered throughout the city like islands: a flower-filled balcony, a green courtyard, or a wild corner of the garden. For many animals and plants, they are vital for survival. Here they can find food and rest. Especially in densely built-up cities, such “stepping stones” help connect habitats and make biodiversity possible in the first place. Our new exhibition “City Full of Life – Biological Diversity Between Forest, Meadow, and Balcony” shows just how rich and surprising this diversity is right on our doorstep.

We hope you enjoy reading the April issue of Umweltinfo or visiting the Umweltladen!
