Environmental information Wiesbaden
The Environmental Agency's newsletter provides information on nature and environmental issues in Wiesbaden and invites citizens to get involved.
What comes to mind when you think of the lovely month of May? Songs come to my mind: “Cuckoo, cuckoo, calls from the forest.” When was the last time you heard a cuckoo? It’s becoming increasingly rare around here. Its clever trick of laying eggs in other birds’ nests is being thrown off course by climate change: Many songbirds now nest earlier, and by the time the cuckoo returns from its winter quarters, it’s often already too late.
Another song is also ringing in my ears: “May has come, the trees are budding.” Yet most tree species now sprout as early as March and April. Spring is shifting noticeably, and with it the delicate interplay of nature. That is precisely why it’s worth taking a closer look in May: Biodiversity Weeks invite you to rediscover Wiesbaden’s nature. Together with initiatives and dedicated nature lovers, the state capital shows just how much there is to experience in and around Wiesbaden.
