Wallauer Spange: Mayor calls for speedy planning approval procedure

Deutsche Bahn has submitted the revised planning approval documents for the Wallauer Spange to the Federal Railway Authority. Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende is calling for a speedy planning approval procedure.

“Deutsche Bahn submitted revised planning application documents for the construction of the ‘Wallauer Spange’ this week. This marks the start of the approval process all over again,” said Wiesbaden Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende. “The construction freeze imposed by the Federal Railway Authority in January was a bitter disappointment and a major setback for the state capital and the entire Rhine-Main region.”

The approximately four-kilometer rail project between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt Airport would reduce the travel time between Wiesbaden Central Station and the long-distance station at Frankfurt Airport to 16 minutes.

The Federal Railway Authority is expected to make the documents available for public review in the middle of this year. “We hope for a swift process so that the planning approval decision can be issued next year, and we expect that the federal government will also provide reliable funding for the 183-million-euro project,” Mende concluded.
